Last day of summer camp

It is Addie's last day of summer camp today. Each week they have had a theme from Bugs to Bubbles and this week was camping. They pitched tents, went on bear hunts, picked berries and had smores (Addie's face was covered in chocolate and marshmallow). They wear shirts each day for camp that say Happy Camper since it is in the park and they aren't really contained, the yellow makes them easy to spot.

Calvin's Walking

Calvin started walking more when Addie was in SoCal with D. In the past few days he is walking everywhere. He has figured out it is way easier to carry things (like balls) if he walks. He is also talking more, he started with "uh oh" a month or two ago and the past two weeks added "juice" and "ball". This we he added "thank you" and now added to ball with "basket ball" which he uses for all balls. Now he is kicking the soccer balls too. I think all he really needs for motivation is a ball and he is good to go.

Who thought arts and crafts could be dangerous?

I left Addie alone for 3 minutes to go get Calvin up from his nap. She had 1 stamp pad and all the stamps out. Apparently she decided to use the stamp pad in herself..... She kissed it to get black lips and then rubbed the stamp pad all over her hands and arms. Needless to say I have spent the past 20 minutes hosing Addie down and washing all the walls she touched.

3 minutes, that is all it takes to create mayhem in the Alvarado house. It is always funny with thing like this, the frustration and rage but the humor in it as well. I grabbed my camera in the hopes I will remember more of the humor in situations like this.

Eye of the tiger

I love the Carter's outfits with the animal faces on the back... Don't you just love the smiling tiger while Calvin climbs the stairs?

Uncle Carson

Well, the last time that Carson was up Addie was deathly afraid and would barely be in the same room. This time she is jumping all over him, making him wonder if perhaps it was better the other way. It was great to have him stay with us for a few days!

Pepsapalooza

Topless girls, music and beer....

A kids music fest isnt where you were going was it? Each year there is a kids concert called Pepsapalooza at Redhook Brewery. The good is that you can get beer and enjoy some tunes, the bad is that you are surrounded by kids (most of which will be crying at some point). What with pony rides, hot weather (hence the topless Addie) and balloons on sticks there were a few challenges. It can get pretty crowded, but thankfully most people empty out around 12 for nap time.... ah, the things that become common place when you are a parent are amusing when you reflect back on what your life used to be. Anyway, I think we are going to spend the day at the beach nect year and skip the music to allow it Addie and Calvin to run around a bit more.

New pool

We got a new wading pool for the kids to enjoy with all the summer weather we are having (note; this is sarcastic, the news warns Seattle summer will be over in 2 weeks and days over 72 have been minimal). Anyway, they are enjoying it now so we will milk it all we can. Yesterday Calvin played in it while his teeth chattered... A true Seattle child.

Laundry day

You know its laundry day when Calvin is wearing Addie's Jammie's.... First pink barrettes and now this.

Future Olympians?

At the park the other day the kids seemed to take an interest in the track and field areas. Addie liked doing the long jump and made 6 attempts, at the end she laid in the grass for a while. I am not a huge lover of track and field but whatever tires Addie out is OK in my book.

It was a hot one

Well, it hit the 90s today so Calvin spent a bit of time out on the deck playing with the water table. We have AC so the house didn't get too bad, but it was nice to WANT to be splashed when Calvin dumps water in you... He cracks himself up as he douses himself in water.

Social butterfly

Well, Calvin appears to be a social butterfly much like Addie. With D and Addie in SoCal for the weekend we went over to some friends house for the evening. It was all Addie's friends, Calvin was the only baby but had a great time playing in the pool, having growling contests and playing with all the big kids. He made it til 9:30 without melting down. He did fall asleep in the 5 minute drive home and was a bit groggy for the trip up the stairs. The picture was taken when he got out if the car, once in his crib he got a second wind and talked for another 20 minutes before finally going to bed.

Doctor doctor

Addie woke up with pink eye the day before a trip down to visit grandma and papi (perfect timing). So, we got to go to the doctor first thing in the morning, not an easy feat with both kids in tow. Calvin quickly resorted to tearing all the paper up that covered the exam table and once that was done he took to pulling all the cords out of the otoscope. From there both he and Addie spun the doctors stool and started pushing over the trash can. They have learned that I can't be in 2 places at once so while I try to get Addie to stop pulling all the wipes out I the diaper bag Calvin goes I we and tips the trash can over. Once the Dr comes in it doesn't get much better with both kids climbing all over me and then finding the light switch, needless to say the lights went out a few times while I tried talking to the Dr.... It was a long 30 minutes.

Shot to the face

I can't remember the rest of the 80s song.... Anyway, Addie got kicked in the head today so she had a nice band aid on her forehead when I picked her up. Apparently there was a scuffle over a caterpillar? It was with one of Addie's friends from preschool so the mom was apologized, I tried to stress that it wasnt a big deal, Addie is usually on the other end of the bruising.
